I'm very physically active would like to be close to the outdoorsand also enjoy restaurants, coffee shops and laid-back bars. Also, how is D. Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Can't help you with the dating but all the neighborhoods you listed sound good. I'd add my personal fav Capitol Hill to the mix as a good place to be.

Quiet close to the action but not too close. If you want to be close to the action then U Street would be good. But I know someone who moved to Capitol Hill after getting tired of all the noise and unwanted people traffic caused by the bars on U street.

Old Town is a really good choice for going out and meeting age appropriate singles but there are places all over the area for that. I like Woodley Park but not the most exciting place but really quiet and close to Rock Creek Park so the options for the outdoors are more abundant in Woodley Park. And there are more trees on that side of town it seems. I like Cleveland Park too. I like the Asian restaurant Spices there. Either way good luck! I'm a food nut and it sounds like Woodley and Cleveland Park have some nice places to eat.

I like the fact that they're maybe a little quieter neighborhoods but are still close to everything. Thanks for the tips! I'll check those areas out.

Oh sure. Well, I would say that Old Town should def be on your list if going out to eat is important. Lots and lots of restaurants on King street. Del Ray is very quiet really cute but not the most exciting. There's a few shops and a couple restaurants but it kinda has a cool laid back almost small townish vibe compared to spots in the District. You might also consider Clarendon Arlingtonthough you'll also see younger and older than your target group people there.

However, the biggest factor will be your budget. All of the places suggested are very expensive. Location: among the clustered spires. Originally Posted by dy Originally Posted by stpickrell. You may also discover you like the area you're in. As for dating, be out and about. Definitely consider the Arlington neighborhoods of Ballston, Clarendon, and Courthouse all stops on the orange line metro. I feel the singles scene is better there than a neighborhood like Del Ray in Alexandria, which has a more family, married couple vibe. For the district, Woodley Park and Cleveland Park again, both stops on metro are good neighborhoods. These places might be a shade cheaper and there seems to be a more dynamic social scene in these places in terms of neighborhood bars and coffee shops, etc.

The only downside to choosing a neighborhood to live in is that the areas that are desirable to people in your situation are also desirable to many other like-minded people who are looking to move there for the same reasons. In addition, many of these like-minded people make a decent income and can afford to pay a good amount in rent, which drives up the prices for eveyone.

If you can get a job first before coming out here, you will be well-served. Particularly since you will be able to better gauge how much you can afford to pay in rent once you know what your income will be. Good luck. Thanks for all the suggestions!

I'm in D. Woodley Park and Cleveland Park seemed like good areas, but maybe a little smaller than I was expecting. And the traffic on Connecticut Ave. Walked around Clarendon and Courthouse, which were nice, if a bit sterile.

It's also tough to judge because it was such a lousy day weather-wise, so everything was gray and gloomy. I think I need to take another walk around on a sunny day. Please register to post and access all features of our very popular forum. It is free and quick.
